How to Use Fortnite to Help Your Kids Grow Spiritually

A Quick Guide For Christian Parents

Fortnite. It’s kind of a thing.

You may not know what skins, emotes, mats, minis, meds, bots, squads, duos, and tryhards are, but your kids do.

Especially if they play the wildly popular Battle Royale version of the game.

As Moms and Dads, you’ve probably been asked to buy a battle pass and some V-Bucks.

And the odds are pretty good that you have seen a kid doing the floss dance.

I wrote this blog post and made a quick guide to help you level up (see what I did there?) 😉

How to Redeem All Those Hours Your Kids Play Fortnite

If you’re like me as a Christian parent, you want to see your kids build a lasting faith.

So what we wanted to do was find creative ways to have a conversation around fortnite that would be helpful for our son (as he had a good time playing with some of his friends we know from school).

Do you want to redeem all those hours your kids play fortnite?

I sure did.

So I created this free quick guide to help you discover how to practically and creatively leverage your kids’ desire to play fortnite to help them get better at life and grow spiritually.

What Christian Parents Need to Know About Fortnite: Battle Royale

Fortnite is the most popular video game in the world right now (certainly among teenagers and especially teenage boys). Here are just a few statistics about the reach and use of the worldwide phenomenon created by Epic Games.

  • As of May 2018, there were 125 million players in total.
  • The total global Fortnite playing time in May-June 2018 was 2.7 billion hours.
  • 53% of Fortnite gamers are aged 10-25.
  • A survey of 1,000 players found that the median time spent playing the game weekly stood at 6-10 hours. Close to a third spent a maximum of 5 hours playing, while 8% spent put in a rather-alarming 21 hours or more of Fortnite playing time per week.
  • You can play on a PC, a gaming console (XBOX or PS4), or a smartphone.

You can find more information and statistics here.

At the end of the day, as Moms and Dads we have a great opportunity to engage our kids on something they care about in a redemptive way. That’s why I created this quick guide for you.

The words of the Apostle Paul come to mind:

“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.”–Eph. 5:15-17

As we raise our kids to follow Jesus, we need God’s wisdom to navigate unexpected challenges and opportunities. We won’t do it perfectly. We want them to build a strong worldview and lasting faith.

I think fortnite can be used as a timely opportunity to help our kids grow spiritually and I hope this guide is helpful to you on your journey as parents.
